During the 2013 Asian Athletics Championships being conducted in Pune, Om Prakash Karhana and Mayookha Johnny each one a bronze medal.
Om Prakash who is a shot putter from Haryana launched the ball 19.45 m and fell short of his personal best of 20.09 m. He was hoping to win the gold medal in this event which would have guaranteed his qualification to the world championships next month.
Mayookha Johnny is a long jumper hails from Kerala (P.T Usha's home state). Mayookha jumped 6.3 m and fell short of her personal best of 6.64 m. This is a great confidence booster for her even though she under achieved compared to her normal performance. It was raining in spurts so the weather might have disrupted her performance as it must have also done the same for other athletes.
Mayookha Johnny's final jump of the day
So far it has been a disappointed show for India considering this event is taking place in Pune. Krishna Poonia, one of the medal prospects came in fourth place and didn't bag a medal. We will await the results of Vikas Gowda, Sudha Singh and Tintu Luka who are all vying to win medals at this event.
